In 2011 the Bahamas Tourist Office / UK launched a promotional campaign to find 16 brides to get married – for FREE! – in the Bahamas. Here’s the link http://www.bahamas16weddings.co.uk/the-16-islands. Essentially, the brides(and their grooms of course!) were provided with their dresses, their rings, flights for 4 and accommodation/meals for 4 in the Bahamas. Each couple would be married on a different island in the Bahamas. I was fortunate enough to be hired by Helena & Jon who won their wedding at the stunning Kamalame Cay Resort in Andros. . The unique ceremony was held at Captain Bill’s Blue Hole, with the dinner reception at www.kamalame.com – who hosted the bride/groom and their family. I was also fortunate enough to stay at Kamalame and although I was working, I was spoiled beyond belief. And the great news is, that’s how they treat every visitor!
This photographer’s adventure began with an early morning flight from Nassau to Central Andros (literally, a 10-minute flight). A 30 minute cab delivered me to the landing dock where the kamalame ferry boat met me with fresh squeezed orange. A 2 minute hop across the “bay” landed me at Kamalame (they are a private cay amongst the mangroves of Andros). A 20 second check-in, and a quick golf cart tour later, I was delivered to my island cottage – the SS Minnow. After a delicious, leisurely breakfast of steamed lionfish and grits, I was energized and ready to work! Kamalame is definitely a slice of heaven here in the Bahamas – time to book a personal w/end there, including a few massages at the only over-the-water spa in the Caribbean…. Enjoy the photos!
