What can I say about this stunning, stylish, island-coastal themed Kamalame Cay Wedding in The Bahamas? So honoured that my bride and groom, K + C, chose me from so many great photographer options. I’ve known Kyrene for many years but like any small town, sometimes you run in the same circles but you know each other more to say “hi” than to have a deep, meaningful conversation. I learned so much about Kyrene and her now-husband Corey that I really do hope our paths continue to cross over the years.
Over the past few months I’ve been able to see how much heart and soul Kyrene put into the planning of this wedding. Every detail was covered and her energy extended to planning all of the transportation and accommodation for friends and family who were coming from all over the world – not only making sure they got there but also waking up early the morning after her wedding to help everybody depart on time! The planning of a Kamalame Cay Wedding is a feat unto itself due to its more remote location and the need for everyone to travel via Nassau, Bahamas. This also meant that weather issues can really present some big challenges – and they certainly did. However, in spite of these challenges K + C were amazing. Beautiful to watch, so engaged and in tune to each other and not wanting the other to be disappointed. As I was editing these images I could not help but shed tears again as remembered clearly the emotions that were so strongly evident in Corey during a few quiet moments of reading a love note, of watching his bride walk down the aisle, and sharing tender moments with his children. And while there were so many emotional moments throughout the day (how about Dad Kelty’s hilarious yet moving speech at dinner!), there was also a ton of laughter and ridiculousness, again completely inevitable when you combine the personalities of laid back and free spirited Bahamians with friends from the Carolinas and beyond, and family from the Highlands of Scotland.
Photographing a wedding in such a stunning location with many of the guests being friends of yours for many years, and the bride and groom being so ridiculously accommodating, kind and generous is an honour and a gift. I can only hope that my images do this memorable day justice.
Cheers to you, Kyrene and Corey – your love is inspiring to those of us still seeking, and a wake up call to those who may have forgotten their original vows!! haha. I look forward to the anniversary shoots and the vow renewals in years to come.
P.S. How about those amazing hats that were gifts from the Groom to his Groomsmen? Designed and sold by his friend’s company Aquaflauge, these awesome hats sport the Bahamas flag – perfect for this wedding. Other goodie bag gifts included Kamalame Cay Tervis Tumbers (every good Bahamian has a cupboard full of various Tervis), Bahamas Handprint Bags for the ladies, JAB Sugar Cane rum. I told you the bride and groom thought of everything!
