My first Pearl Island Bahamas Wedding had me quite apprehensive, I must admit. A late morning wedding in the middle of June, in the Bahamas, followed by the more “formal” photo session – on an island with very little natural shade and coverage. Glaring sun and blazing heat (I am a true cold weather person!), and a bride and groom who I had not had a chance to meet beforehand. However, I am over the moon with how the final images turned out – exactly as I saw them in my head after my early arrival and quick tour of the island. A few spots jumped out at me and I was thrilled that the bride and groom, and their besties, were really open to anything and did not complain once about the heat (there’s something about German’s and their love of the tropical heat!).
As the bride’s father is the owner of this excellent tourist location I wanted to not only capture the story of the wedding itself but also to bring in key elements of the island and its attractions, all of which featured in this Pearl Island Bahamas Wedding. To get to Pearl Island you just jump on their boat for a short but beautiful ride down Nassau’s harbour, along Paradise Island. This gem of relative solitude and relaxation is just a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city of Nassau, which is perfect for a day trip. You definitely don’t have to get married to visit Pearl Island, but it certainly adds a little something to have the whole island to yourself 🙂
What better way to end a great few hours of shooting than aboard a pirate ship! It was quite something to see Blackbeard’s Revenge, Nassau’s newest tourist attraction, cruise up for a test run on the pier, and we just could not resist taking this Pearl Island Wedding experience on board (as well as deciding it was better to make friends than risk the pirate pillaging that might take place for our delicious food and cocktails!).
Looking for a Bahamas wedding location that’s just a little bit different? Happy to photography here – and thinking a sunset event would be equally as stunning.
